Come learn the secrets to perfect embossing every time. No more guessing sandwich folders to use. I’ve got it all figured out for you!
I had a new stamper in my studio the other day and she wanted to try out some embossing folders. As a novice stamper, she was frustrated over knowing which sandwich combinations to use with which embossing folders. So I thought a little tutorial would be helpful.
First of all, Stampin’ Up! has two types of embossing folders: “normal” and 3D. The 3D embossing folders give you a deeper impression, and the folders themselves are thicker than the regular ones. To emboss using one of the 3D embossing folders you will need:
- Your die cutting machine and standard platform
- A 3D embossing folder with your paper inserted in the middle
- The ‘blue” 3D Embossing Folder Plate placed on top of the 3D embossing folder
For the thinner, or “normal” embossing folders, you’ll need:
- Your die cutting machine and standard platform
- A standard cutting plate
- An embossing folder with your paper inserted in the middle
- Finished with another standard cutting plate on top.
If you have the older 3D textured impressions embossing folders, those are super thick. They only require 1 standard cutting plate, like so:
- Your die cutting machine and standard platform
- An embossing folder with your paper inserted in the middle
- Finished with another standard cutting plate on top.
The most important thing to remember is…don’t force it! If you meet with resistance, STOP! Forcing it through will tear your folder and possibly damage your machine. Either you’ve not got your folders and plates aligned properly, or you have the wrong plates. Back up and try again.
